Can you read music? Come read some chords!

University of Toronto Scarborough, Music Cognition Lab


In this study, you will hear and read piano chords and be asked to identify whether they are major (happy-sounding) or minor (sad-sounding) according to the rules of western music.

Eligibility Criteria


All genders

At least 18 years old

Confidently read treble clef music

Identify whether a chord is major or minor (written and by ear)

No diagnosed hearing disabilities or cochlear implant

This study will be performed via ZOOM. Headphones/Earbuds are required, and the study must be completed on a computer (no mobile devices).
