Understanding Medication Self-Management

University of Toronto, Pharmaceutical Sciences

We are researchers at the University of Toronto recruiting participants for a study on how people manage their medications. We want to understand people’s experiences with medications and how they navigate everyday life while taking medications. We are conducting a concept mapping study, consisting of three stages, with the end goal of creating a visual map that represents your ideas and opinions.

Your Impact

With your participation, we can enhance our understanding of how different people navigate taking medications as part of their everyday lives. In the future, we can use your experiences to inform better ways to help people manage their medications.

Eligibility Criteria

All genders

At least 18 years old

Be currently taking or previously (within the last 5 years) have taken one or more medication(s) on a daily basis for a time period of 3 months or longer. These may include prescribed medications, over the counter (e.g., acetaminophen, ibuprofen), or natural health products (e.g., vitamins and supplements)

Live in Canada

Be living in the community (not in hospital or long-term care)

Be able to read and communicate in English

Study Tasks

In stage one, you will take part in a brainstorming activity to generate statements in response to the question “What matters to you about medications in your everyday life?”
In stage two, you may be invited back to participate in sorting those statements into similar themes and rate each statement on two factors: how important it is to you and how easy it would be to achieve in your everyday life.
In stage three, you may be invited back to decide on a final visual map to represent the statements.
