Why Do Teen Girls Experience Anxiety? Researchers from the University of Calgary are trying to answer this question. We are doing a study to figure out why teen girls experience fear and worries. Many teen girls face anxiety. Globally, anxiety is the most common group of disorders among teens. The social costs are anxiety are high and have imposed a large public health burden on society. This is why it is important to determine what causes fears and worries in teen girls. If we understand why teen girls experience anxiety, we may do a better job at preventing increases in anxiety.
15% of adolescents having an identified anxiety disorder. Roughly 60-90% of those with an anxiety disorder will go on to developing an additional disorder, with 15% of those meeting criteria for a co-occurring substance use disorder. In addition to anxiety being a gateway disorder, 4.8% of adolescents with an anxiety disorder will engage in illicit drug use, and only 26.0% of individuals with an anxiety disorder will enter university or any formal education after high school. Although we have an enormous feat of conquering the widespread onset and consequences of anxiety, your support in this study may help us understand how to prevent anxiety. By preventing anxiety we may be able to reduce long term mental health concerns that children and youth face.
