The Object Memory Game

The Object Memory Game (OMG) Sleep Study is a brand new research project funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) that will run for one year from April 2020. Our lab, the Sleep, Language and Memory (SLAM) Lab at the University of York, are very interested in the relationship between sleep and memory. By filling out our questionnaires and trying out the memory game, you will help us to dig deeper and better understand the complex relationship between lifestyle, sleep quality, and memory. What is involved? The study takes places over two sessions. On Session 1 we will ask you some background questions about your age, sex, your socioeconomic status and your family environment. We will also collect information on how well you have been sleeping generally. As soon as you submit the Google Form for this, you will immediately be redirected to a short memory task which takes around 15 minutes to complete and involves remembering where some objects we present to you are placed on screen. On Session 2, we will ask you to answer a few more questions about your sleep and mood and after you submit your answers you will immediately be re-directed to a second memory task, very similar to the one you have already completed, except that it only lasts a couple of minutes. You can start this any time you want. Ideally you would complete the first session in the evening before sleep and the re-test in the morning shortly after wake, but we understand if this not possible. The only thing we require is that Session 2 is completed before midnight on the calendar day following Session 1.

Your Impact

Taking part will allow us to better understand the complex relationship between sleep, lifestyle factors and memory which is a very important and emerging field with potential benefits for those individuals experiencing disrupted sleep.
